Serbia Wins FINA Men's Water Polo World League Title -- July 19, 2010

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, July 19. THE Super Final of the FINA Men's Water Polo World League 2010, taking place in Nis (SRB), from July 13-18, concluded with the victory of Serbia, conquering its third title and thus confirming its successes of 2007 and 2008 (Serbia won sixth titles if we consider the entity of Serbia-Montenegro). The Serbian team is also current World champion and Olympic bronze medallist from Beijing 2008.

Europe clearly dominated the 2010 edition, with all podium spots occupied by teams from this continent. Montenegro (winner of the 2009 edition) confirmed its status of powerhouse in the discipline by taking silver. The Serbian-Montenegro battle ended with a penalty-shootout after a tied 10-10, with Serbia eventually seizing victory in front of an ecstatic 3,000-spectator crowd by a 14-12 score.

Croatia (silver-medallist in 2009) secured the minor medal, winning over Australia 9-7, which this year falls short of the podium (Australia was bronze-medallist in 2007 and 2008).

The USA took fifth place (silver-medallist in 2008), winning over Spain 7-6, which finishes sixth. China beat South Africa 11-5, ending in seventh place, while South Africa closed the ranking.
